Michiel Kluiters (born 1971 in Amsterdam) works in a conceptual way with the medium of photography, making installations that usually feature large depictions of self-made, empty and somewhat claustrophobic spaces. The choice of imagery and the method of installation influence the way in which the exhibition space is experienced.
The video installation for de Inkijk took the building’s architecture and its function as ‘exhibition space for passers-by’ as the point of departure. Series of snapshot photographs of the building’s exterior and interior were incorporated in what seemed to be a large moving poster display placed diagonally in the space.
Push played with the viewer’s perception since the displayed pictures, although credible and realistic, did not precisely correspond to the actual building. The moment a viewer could possibly get a grip on the subtle differences between the displayed and the real, the image was pushed on to the next.
