Schie 2.0 developed an art project for the ‘InHolland’ College in The Hague. The project is made up of four archetypal pieces of furniture: the sofa, the counter, the dugout and the lectern. The pieces were placed in areas of the school that are accessible to the public and each alludes to specific forms of communication within specific social groups. For example the lectern represents the speech, the counter represents the cafe discussion and the sofa represents the intimate consultation with a psychiatrist. From the dugout a small group can observe the activities taking place on the courtyard. The four pieces of furniture occasionally emit fragments of text with which they attempt to influence the conversations taking place on them. The questions and comments that can be heard focus on social, political and personal topics. A team of students periodically edits and updates the sound fragments. ‘Droogzwemmen’ is intended to be implemented as an educational tool so that the students can experiment with it.
