Like a colorful rainbow that has become frozen in time, an enormous shower of glass bulbs hangs in the upper section of the entrance hall. For the NKI-AVL, Maria Roosen created De Regenboog (The Rainbow): four hundred hand blown bulbs in each of the seven proverbial colors plus an additional 107 tones in between.

While one wanders under this work of art and ruminates on atmospheric phenomena and the facets of light, one is also subtly led astray by the artist. Hanging between the bulbs are a few trinkets made of aluminum and partially covered with gold leaf. They are everyday objects such as a key, a penguin and a smoked sausage. Trinkets are usually found on bracelets or necklaces on which they function as souvenirs of beautiful moments. Moments that can be worn every day, close to the skin and close to the heart. In this way, the glass bulbs are transformed into the beads on a piece of jewelry, momentarily reducing the firmament to a more personal format.
