Full Llove Inn by Federico D’Orazio
In September a spectacular hotel room located right in front of the Llloyd Hotel and titled the Full Llove Inn, opened its doors to the public. The Full Llove Inn is a stripped car with a comfortably decorated interior that has been placed on tall poles, like a love nest high above the bustling crowd. The merging of art and entertainment is an important theme in Federico D’ Orazio’s work. With it D’ Orazio elicits a reaction from the public and capitalizes on their urge to satisfy their human needs. He expresses the bizarre, subliminal and fully-matured aspects of desire. Life in the city is marked more and more by a daily fight for survival of large groups of individuals. There isn’t enough space, time and money for everyone and people are all looking for fame, success, entertainment and fun. All are surrogates of happiness and although there’s an abundance of offerings in the hectic city, there are few possibilities for intimate, human contact. For this reason D’Orazio designed the ‘Full Llove Inn’, and whoever wishes to, can spend the night here. In the morning you can take a shower in the Lloyd Hotel. Reservations for a maximum of one night can be made by sending an email to: FullLloveInn@gmail.com
Romancing the Unknown by Shana Moulton
Shana Moulton’s contribution to Liefde in de stad is a series of goofy plays that feature popular cultural symbols of love and toy with romantic conceptions of nature. These imaginative public performances will, in one way or another, focus on the unique character of Amsterdam’s history. With the use of costumes, sound, props and prosthetics, fairy tales will be created on the spot. These public performances will reach a climax in a multimedia closing ceremony in the Paradiso, where video will be combined with live action and music.

An Ode by Wineke Gartz
Wineke Gartz’s project consists of a booklet in which she writes about her personal experiences while living in the Indische buurt (East Amsterdam). It is a collection of visual observations, musings, identifications with stray cats, casual encounters and meetings with the neighborhood’s residents as well as descriptions of places that have been imbued with new meaning. With this booklet you can discover East Amsterdam through the eyes of Wineke Gartz. While strolling, your attention automatically focuses on nondescript places that, through Gartz’s contemplations, suddenly seem special and familiar. They touch on something substantial in the life of this city and reveal how you eventually become attached to objects in your surroundings and how these objects become part of your existence. In other words, they show what makes up the essentially human process of feeling at home somewhere. These days Gartz doesn’t live in East Amsterdam but her booklet has become an ode to the Indische buurt and to this neighborhood’s platitudes, cats and other creatures of the night.

IEPE featuring Blossum Flowerrain Airforce
The work ‘Catharsis 2006’ by IEPE - featuring Blossom Flowerrain Airforce - is a ritual performance that will took place on Sunday 17 September in the Westerpark. The ritual included the following ingredients: a helicopter, 10.000 Watts worth of sound, 90.000 flowers, four years of recent national history and one minute of silence. IEPE composed a soundtrack that confronts us with certain painful events in Amsterdam’s recent past. During the climax when the last notes of the soundtrack fade into the live sound of a helicopter that was flying overhead, a shower of flowers was released that fluttered down onto the Westerpark. And thus this reenactment ended in a moment of ultimate beauty and unity.
‘Liefde in de stad’ (‘Love in the City’) was initiated by Paradiso and aims to spread love during these callous and confused times. The performances segment was organized with the help of SKOR.
