Working Progress is an elevated wooden footpath measuring about 1.5 kilometers in length that meanders through the Bergermeer polder in Alkmaar. It was made by Kawamata in association with the clients of a drug rehab center. The path sets out at the clinic and leads the ambler, himself a symbol of the ex-addict, back to civilization. Part of the project was a wooden boat and, in 1997, Kawamata and the clients of the rehab center sailed this boat to the exhibition, Skulptur Projekte, in Münster.
