For De Losserhof (Losser Court), Bartelings created Het kasteel van Almelo (“The Castle of Almelo), a sculpture located on a field in the Schelfhorst district, near the housing units for the disabled that are a part of this institute. With its arched shape, the sculpture offers both shelter and a place to play in. Massive cantilever or tooth-shaped objects were fitted between the horizontal top and bottom section of the sculpture. In this way the image – intentionally – evokes something in between a rudimentary castle and a magnified set of dentures.

Sculptor Walter Bartelings’ work bears many references to (interior) design. He creates constructions that consist of architectonic elements such as walls, floors, screens and banisters and he uses mainly timber as a material. His works are not only a part of a given space, they also delineate their own space.
