Parasites are flexible and temporary structures designed by artists or architects that make use of the existing infrastructure in a parasitical way. Parasite Paradise documents 23 projects aimed at meeting new and unexpected needs, outside the existing rules. Many of these projects were brought together in Leidse Rijn near Utrecht during the Parasite Paradise event.
Parasite Paradise prompts reflections on a different way of planning, where not everything is set out down to the last detail. This book is thus indispensable for architects, urban planners and artists involved with the design of public space. What meaning do these small-scale and mobile architectural interventions have for our strictly regulated society and for architectural and urban planning, what is their sense or lack of sense from a historical perspective, how are the roles divided between art and architecture?
