Wilhelmina Childrens’ Hospital
Project by Marijke van Warmerdam
In Marijke van Warmerdam’s Le Retour du Chapeau we see a straw hat carried by the wind above an impressive mountain landscape. The film is projected onto a large wall in the entrance foyer with the projector mounted in a glass cabin. The children receive such a hat when they are admitted to the hospital and they’re allowed to keep it when they go back home.
Project by Michel François
Michel François made a series of black and white photographs for the corridor leading to the outpatient clinics. They are mainly pictures of children from different parts of the world. The photographs emit a physical and sensual aura as the people depicted in them are seen swimming, walking, kissing, smelling and tasting.
Project by Rob Birza
Rob Birza’s work, Zizo and the dream men, stands in the courtyard garden. It consists of a large white dragon partly hidden under the ground so that only its head, tail and back stick out above the grass. At night its eyes glow red. The dragon is accompanied by three cartoon-like little men, one giant-size and two smaller ones, one of whom is sitting in the pond, the other standing nearby.
