Florian Göttke selected large and small stories that recount the traditions of Puttershoek and the village’s role in history.
Under the banner of De Wijk van je Leven project, sport complexes and playing fields in the Hoeksche Waard are being transformed into a new neighbourhood where houses and facilities are realised for all age and population groups. Besides the houses, the development includes places of entertainment, child day care centres, care homes for the elderly and shops. In an early stage of the construction the Binnenmaas City Council and SKOR developed an art project that is integral to the concept for the neighbourhood. The desires and ideas of the future residents - including many elderly people - were central during its development, the aim being to involve them as much as possible and to foster connections between them and with their surroundings. The artistic programme, which was integrated into the urban development plan, responds to this. The programme focuses on the preservation and revival of local traditions, knowledge and values. Structured by the passage of time, reciprocity and familiarity, the projects accentuate the local history and culture and create unique moments for collective and individual experiences. In this way the project creates a foundation and continuity through the years and will also revive old rituals and bring new ones to life. The art programme brings together the young and the elderly, the past, present and future, and strives to incorporate the residents’ realms of experience.
Florian Göttke
Florian Göttke’s works follow those of Annelys de Vet, which were presented at the opening of the first Kalender Puttershoek project. His monuments represent the history of Puttershoek, which is replete with events, symbols and myths that mark key moments in the village’s recent and distant history. Florian Göttke selected large and small stories that recount the formal and informal traditions of Puttershoek and the role the village has played in national and global history. The statues will be unveiled on November 17, 2011.
