Spinoza Mondial Reading Performance

Between 4 and 7 February 2010, Job Koelewijn’s Spinoza Mondial Reading Performance was screened at Witte de With in Rotterdam. Koelewijn started his worldwide tour of group readings from Spinoza’s Ethica in 2009, as part of the My name is Spinoza manifestation (May-June-September 2009). Amongst the readings presented at Witte de With were those from Istanbul, Brussels, Venice, Dar el Salam, Barcelona, London and Amsterdam. The Spinoza Mondial Reading Performance was programmed for the non-stop film programme And the moral of the story is …, itself part of Witte de With’s leitmotiv for the year, Morality.

Isa Genzken, Between You and I

Starting on Friday 20 February 2010, the outer façade of Witte de With will be featuring a more than life-size representation of The King of Pop blowing a hand kiss to passers-by on the street. The work in question is the art project Wind, by Isa Genzken. This is the second project in a series of four entitled Between You and I, a collaborative venture between SKOR and Witte de With (Centre for Contemporary Art Rotterdam). Four international artists have been invited to submit a proposal for an intervention on the outer façade of Witte de With, in the form of a critical interface with the urban environment of the city of Rotterdam. Wind will be on view until 16 May 2010.

Christine Rusche, Cross Cut

Imagine you are able to compress the space before your feet. That would mean you were able to move faster, in the same amount of time. Until recently, this principle known as warping, was only possible in Star Trek. However, anyone viewing one of the spatial drawings by Christine Rusche, or rather experiencing them, will enjoy a similar sensation. At the invitation of SKOR, she produced a mural in this style for the stairwell of the Alysis Zorggroep care organisation in Velp.
Cross Cut was opened on 10 February 2010.

Exhibition Portscapes in Museum Boijmans van Beuningen

Between 30 January and 25 April 2010, the special exhibition Portscapes will be on view at Museum Boijmans van Beuningen. Against the background of the construction of the Second Maasvlakte, a huge land suppletion project occupying 2000 hectares in the North Sea, twelve (inter)national artists were invited to reflect on the port, its function and its expansion. Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen will be presenting ten of the resultant art projects, all of which help to bring to life the mega-proportioned world of the Port of Rotterdam Authority and the new piece of land.
